Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães is set to join Arsenal following a compromise on a £75m transfer fee between the two clubs.

Arsenal and Newcastle have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Bruno Guimarães for a fee of £75m. The Brazilian player is expected to depart Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in southern Spain to travel to London for a medical examination in the coming days.

Negotiations and Transfer Details

The final £75m fee represents a compromise between Arsenal’s initial offer of £60m and Newcastle’s demand for at least £80m. Guimarães, who will turn 29 in November, has two years remaining on his current contract. As part of the financial terms, his former club, Lyon, is entitled to approximately £7m due to a 20% sell-on clause regarding the profit Newcastle makes on the transfer.

Departure from Newcastle

Guimarães had been participating in Newcastle's pre-season camp and met with the club's incoming manager, Matthias Jaissle, on Monday to express his desire to leave. Despite the club's preference to retain him following the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali earlier this summer, the player remained determined to join Arsenal. His exit is described as cordial, contrasting with the departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool last year.

Since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, Guimarães has made 153 league appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 26 assists.
