In the final round of Group C matches on Wednesday, Nigeria defeated Egypt 6-2, and Zambia beat Malawi 2-1. Because Nigeria, Malawi, and Zambia finished with identical records of two wins and one loss, CAF regulations required the creation of a mini-table based only on matches played between the three tied teams. This rule excluded Zambia's 6-0 victory over Egypt from the calculation. Within the mini-table, all three teams held identical records of one win, one loss, and three points. The tie was ultimately decided by the number of goals scored in the mini-table matches. Tabitha Chawinga’s goal for Malawi in their 2-1 loss to Zambia proved decisive, giving Malawi a higher goal tally in the mini-table and securing their spot in the quarterfinals.
