Former Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has called on the European Commission to suspend Serbia's EU accession negotiations following the funeral of Ratko Mladic. Mladic, the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska who was serving a life sentence for genocide and war crimes, was buried today at Belgrade's Topcider Cemetery with military honors. Kosor described the event as a mass, uncivilized act of worship toward a convicted war criminal.

Calls for EU Suspension

In a post on the X network, Kosor criticized the European Commission and its president, Ursula von der Leyen, labeling them incapable. She argued that the suspension of Serbia's EU membership talks is the minimum response required following the funeral proceedings.

Rebuttal from National Convention Coordinator

Bojana Selakovic, coordinator of the National Convention on the European Union, responded to Kosor by arguing that it is harmful to apply collective labels to all Serbian citizens. She stated that the actions of funeral attendees cannot be used to justify ending negotiations on behalf of more than six million people, noting that many attendees may have traveled from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Selakovic further criticized Kosor's remarks as hypocritical, pointing out that the ruling parties of Serbia and Croatia belong to the same political family. She noted that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), of which Kosor was a member, has had the ability to influence support for Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic through the European People's Party.
