Oscar winner Jessica Chastain will star in the upcoming Netflix drama series The Retrievals, which centers on a group of IVF patients pursuing legal action against Yale University.

Jessica Chastain has signed on to star in the Netflix drama series The Retrievals, a project created by showrunner Molly Smith Metzler. The series is inspired by the Peabody Award-winning podcast of the same name by Susan Burton. Chastain joins a cast that includes previously announced actors Emilia Jones and Amy Ryan in a story about IVF patients who seek justice after undergoing surgery without anesthesia due to a nurse's theft of fentanyl.

Plot and Character Details

Chastain will portray Kaitlyn Langford, a former art historian who has undergone a decade of unsuccessful fertility treatments. After discovering she was a victim of criminal drug diversion at the Yale Fertility Center, her character becomes a central plaintiff in a lawsuit against the university. Amy Ryan is set to play Carla Russo, the nurse who pleaded guilty to stealing fentanyl and replacing it with saline, while Emilia Jones plays fellow victim Gabby Clemente.

The series is produced by LuckyChap and Quiet Coyote. Executive producers include Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie for LuckyChap, alongside Colin McKenna, Caitlin Roper for The New York Times, and podcast creator Susan Burton. Lila Neugebauer, who previously worked on Maid and Sirens, is attached to direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer. The project reunites showrunner Molly Smith Metzler with Netflix and the production team following their collaboration on the series Maid.
