Jürgen Klopp has been named the new head coach of the German national football team, signing a contract that runs through the 2030 World Cup.

The German Football Association (DFB) has officially appointed Jürgen Klopp as the head coach of the national team. Klopp, who succeeds Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s exit from the recent World Cup, signed a contract extending through the 2030 tournament. He is scheduled to officially assume the role on August 15.

Coaching Staff and Administrative Changes

Klopp’s new coaching staff includes former colleagues Peter Krawietz and Pep Lijnders, both of whom worked with him during his tenure at Liverpool. Former Germany international Sven Bender has also joined the staff. Additionally, Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, will serve as an external consultant responsible for strategy, development, and innovation. In other administrative shifts, Rudi Völler will remain as sporting director. Per Mertesacker is set to succeed Andreas Rettig as the DFB’s managing director for sport starting in January, following Rettig's planned departure at the end of the year.

Initial Performance and Tactical Outlook

In his first match as coach, Klopp led Germany to a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in their Nations League opener. Lukas Nmecha scored for Germany, but a late injury-time goal from Cody Gakpo leveled the score. Klopp noted that while he was satisfied with several individual performances, the team needs to improve its ability to create scoring chances. Klopp is currently evaluating his squad options, having named two different rosters for the four Nations League matches. The team saw debuts from Younes Ebnoutalib, Yannik Engelhardt, and Philipp Treu during the recent international period, with further squad assessments expected in upcoming fixtures.
