NASA astronaut Deniz Burnham has been assigned to her first mission to the International Space Station, scheduled for launch in March 2027.

NASA has assigned astronaut Deniz Burnham to serve as a flight engineer for Expedition 76 aboard the International Space Station. Burnham is scheduled to launch in March 2027 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Roscosmos Soyuz MS-30 spacecraft. She will be joined by cosmonauts Dmitri Petelin and Konstantin Borisov for a mission expected to last approximately seven months.

Mission Objectives and Background

During her time on the orbiting laboratory, Burnham will participate in scientific research and technology demonstrations. These activities are intended to support future human exploration missions to the Moon and Mars, as well as provide benefits for life on Earth.

Burnham's Career and Education

Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, Burnham graduated with the agency's 23rd astronaut class in 2024. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, San Diego, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California. Before joining NASA, she worked for over a decade managing drilling operations in the energy industry and served as an engineering duty officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
