Football leaders from Denmark, Finland, and Sweden have requested a meeting with the European Commission to address concerns regarding FIFA's governance and transparency.

The football associations of Denmark, Finland, and Sweden have formally asked the European Commission to intervene regarding governance and transparency concerns at FIFA. The request follows the introduction and subsequent withdrawal of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which proposed allowing private investors to acquire stakes in FIFA's commercial operations.

Concerns Over FIFA Governance

The presidents of the Finnish, Danish, and Swedish football associations sent a letter to EU Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef requesting a meeting in Brussels. The officials stated that the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which would have created a new commercial entity, raised fundamental questions about the future control of world football due to a perceived lack of transparency and democratic accountability.

Broader Opposition to Leadership

Although FIFA abandoned the proposal, the Nordic officials argue that the underlying concerns remain unresolved. They are joined by other governing bodies, including UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and CONCACAF, which previously accused FIFA President Gianni Infantino of breaking trust. All six Nordic FIFA members have stated they have lost confidence in Infantino's leadership and are calling for an independent investigation into the project and a review of FIFA's governance framework.
