Russian forces report the capture of Nikolaipolye and Matyashevo in the Donetsk region, alongside claims of significant Ukrainian personnel and equipment losses over the past 24 hours.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on August 20 that its forces have liberated the settlements of Nikolaipolye and Matyashevo in the Donetsk region. These territorial gains were achieved through operations conducted by the Battlegroup South and Battlegroup Center units over the preceding 24-hour period.

Reported Ukrainian Personnel and Equipment Losses

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian army sustained approximately 1,390 casualties across all frontline areas during the last day. The ministry reported the destruction of various military assets, including infantry fighting vehicles, armored combat vehicles, and field artillery guns across the responsibility areas of Russia's six regional battlegroups. Specific losses cited by the ministry include two US-made Stryker armored personnel carriers in the Battlegroup South sector, as well as multiple electronic warfare stations and motor vehicles across various regions. The ministry also reported that its air defense forces intercepted 1,504 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles and 11 guided aerial bombs within the same timeframe.

Infrastructure and Tactical Operations

Russian forces conducted strikes against 147 locations, targeting fuel and energy infrastructure, transport facilities, and UAV storage sites used by the Ukrainian military. These operations involved tactical aircraft, missile troops, and artillery, and reportedly targeted temporary deployment areas for Ukrainian formations and foreign mercenaries. Battlegroup units reported improved tactical positions near several settlements in the Sumy, Kharkov, and Zaporozhye regions. The ministry stated that these operations inflicted losses on various Ukrainian units, including mechanized, airmobile, and territorial defense brigades.
