Data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air shows 18 shipments of oil products linked to Russian crude reached EU ports in July.

Eighteen shipments of oil products refined from Russian crude were unloaded at European Union ports in July, according to an analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). This figure represents more than double the eight shipments recorded in the previous month. Despite an EU-wide ban on refined fuels made from Russian crude that took effect earlier this year, these deliveries continue to reach member states.

Distribution of Shipments

Spain and Cyprus were the primary recipients in July, each accepting seven of the recorded cargoes. Additional deliveries were received by Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, and the Netherlands. The origin points for these shipments included Turkey, which accounted for eight cargoes, while India and Georgia each supplied five.

LNG Imports and Enforcement

While Russia's earnings from liquefied natural gas (LNG) dropped by 36 percent in July compared to June, Belgium remains a significant importer. Belgium sourced all of its LNG imports from Russia during July, making it the third-largest importer of Russian fossil fuels in the bloc. CREA has called on national enforcement agencies to investigate these trade routes to prevent Russian oil from entering the EU.
