Ryan Fox has won the Open with a dramatic birdie on the final hole at Birkdale. He defeated Sam Burns and Cameron Young to become New Zealand's second Open champion, 63 years after Bob Charles. Fox shot a final round of 68, including four birdies in the last six holes.

Trophy Presentation

The R&A chief executive Mark Darbon announced the results, stating 'With a score of 270, the winner of the gold medal and the champion golfer of the year: Ryan Fox!' Fox then received the Claret Jug and raised it to the sky. In his speech, Fox said 'Aw wow! … I don’t really know what to think at the moment … my wife and kids are in Florida at the moment … I spoke to my kids last night and they said ‘bring back the trophy’ and I think that’s a pretty cool one to bring back for them!'

Record-Breaking Win

Ryan Fox broke the record for winning from the lowest position on the leaderboard after the first round. He was tied for 85th on Thursday, seven behind the 18-hole leader Jackson Suber. The previous record was held by Mark O’Meara, who was tied 62nd after 18 holes in 1998 at Royal Birkdale. Fox shot a record-equalling 62 on Saturday, followed by a final round of 68, including four birdies in the last six holes.
