Tottenham has acquired winger Mykhailo Mudryk on loan with an option to buy, marking his return to competition following a resolved doping case.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan deal that includes an option to purchase the player. The 25-year-old, who will wear the number 27 shirt, joins the north London club to reunite with manager Roberto De Zerbi, who previously coached him at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Return to Competition

Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024 due to a doping suspension. He had been serving a four-year ban after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium. Following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and changes to World Anti-Doping Agency procedures, the Football Association, WADA, and Mudryk reached an agreement to resolve the case. Mudryk accepted the charges but is now eligible to return to competition immediately.

Career Context and Expectations

Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 for £88.5 million but struggled to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge. Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi, who once identified Mudryk as a potential future Ballon d'Or winner, stated he intends to help the player find his best form. Sporting director Johan Lange noted that the club was impressed by the player's ambition and determination to succeed in this new challenge.

Additional Squad Movements

The club is also expected to sign Chelsea defender Tosin on a permanent deal. Tosin is viewed as a replacement for Kevin Danso, who recently transferred to Sunderland on a season-long loan. The agreement for Danso includes a £22 million obligation for the move to become permanent if Sunderland avoids relegation this season.
