Micromobility company Veo has introduced the Rover, a sit-down electric tricycle, at an event in Denver. The vehicle is designed for street use and aims to provide a more accessible option than traditional two-wheeled e-scooters or bikes. While currently available only in Denver, Veo plans to expand the Rover to other cities across the United States.

Design and Specifications

The Rover is 2.5 feet wide, allowing it to fit within standard three-foot-wide bike lanes. It features a self-balancing three-wheeled design and a rear cargo basket capable of holding up to 100 pounds. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour and a range of approximately 45 miles per charge using the same batteries as Veo's other electric vehicles.

Accessibility and Development

Veo developed the Rover in collaboration with organizations including the Disability Mobility Initiative, the Parkinson's Foundation, Capitol Hill Village, and the AARP. The design aims to assist older users and those who require more stability than two-wheeled vehicles offer. The vehicle also includes an AI-powered voice assistant that provides directions, location information, and traffic updates.

Operations in Denver

In May, Denver signed an exclusive contract with Veo, making the company the sole supplier of shared bikes and scooters in the city. The Rover is equipped with lidar sidewalk-detection technology intended to prevent riding on sidewalks, though local reports indicate this remains an ongoing issue. Veo plans to use ridership data collected from the Rover to inform its expansion strategy into other markets.
