Over 10,600 runners have registered for the 43rd edition of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, marking the largest event in its history.

The 43rd Wizz Air Sofia Marathon has reached a record-breaking 10,600 registered participants, making it the most significant event in the race's history. Due to high demand, spots for the 42 km marathon and 21 km half-marathon were fully booked 10 days before the original registration deadline of September 20. Organizers have since released a limited number of additional slots to accommodate the growing interest.

Event Logistics and Schedule

The organizers, the Association Sport in Free Time, have added 100 extra spots for the marathon and 500 for the half-marathon. Registration for the 10 km, 5 km, and 21 km relay races remains open until the end of September or until remaining quotas are filled. The 5 km and 10 km races are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, while the marathon, half-marathon, and relay events will take place on Sunday, October 11.

International Participation and Tourism

The marathon has attracted over 1,400 international runners from 65 countries. The race route is designed to pass by various cultural and architectural landmarks, serving as a tour of the capital. Organizers view this international interest as a way to promote Sofia as a destination for active tourism, combining athletic competition with cultural exploration.

Race Atmosphere and Support

For the third consecutive year, the event will feature a musical program with stages positioned along the race route near refreshment stations. These stations will provide food and drinks to support the energy needs of participants across all distances. The event is set to include professional athletes, amateur runners, families, and corporate teams.
