Ahmad Firdaus Daud, a People's Action Party member since 2016, will be appointed as a second adviser to grassroots organizations in Kembangan effective September 1. The ward was previously overseen by Faishal Ibrahim, who resigned from politics in July. Mr. Firdaus, who was prepared to stand as a candidate in the 2025 General Election, will join the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC team to assist in serving residents.

Transition of Grassroots Duties

Mr. Firdaus currently serves as a second adviser in Punggol, working alongside Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. Following his new appointment, he will initially hold second adviser roles in both Punggol and Kembangan. According to Seah Kian Peng, the speaker of parliament who leads the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC team, the long-term plan is for Mr. Firdaus to eventually relinquish his Punggol role to focus exclusively on Kembangan.

Background on the Appointment

The Kembangan ward vacancy follows the resignation of Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim on July 20, after Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated that Faishal's interactions with a woman did not meet the standards required of a political office holder and MP. Mr. Firdaus, a lawyer in private practice, recently participated in a distribution of National Day vouchers to Kembangan residents, marking his first major activity in the ward.
