Seventeen-year-old Brian Madjo scored on his debut for Aston Villa against PSG following an eight-month struggle to register the player.

Brian Madjo, a 17-year-old striker, made his debut for Aston Villa in a match against PSG at the Red Bull Arena. The 6ft 4in forward scored a goal after an eight-month delay in his registration following his £10m transfer from Metz. Villa successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in July to clear the player for competition.

Registration and Eligibility

Villa had been attempting to register Madjo since the start of the year. Although international transfers for players under 18 are restricted, the club argued that Madjo should be exempt because he was born in London. The player has previously represented Luxembourg in friendlies but has since accepted an England Under-17 call-up, scoring four goals in nine appearances.

Performance Against PSG

Manager Unai Emery selected Madjo to start against PSG while resting Ollie Watkins and benching Tammy Abraham. Despite missing two early chances, Madjo scored by volleying in a cross from John McGinn. He was substituted for Abraham with 18 minutes remaining in the match, which ultimately ended in a 2-1 defeat for Villa after a goal by Desire Doue.

Squad Management and Future

Emery stated that he chose to play younger athletes like Madjo and George Hemmings to monitor their progression while allowing senior players who participated in the World Cup an extended break. Villa is currently preparing for their Premier League season opener against Brighton on 23 August. The club has recently seen high-profile departures, including Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.
