Nothing has unveiled its new $399 flagship over-ear headphones, featuring a unique triple-driver design and a physical switch for flat audio output.

Nothing officially announced its new Headphone 1 Pro flagship over-ear headphones during an event in New York City on Monday. The device introduces a triple-driver architecture designed to improve sound clarity across different frequency spectrums. Priced at $399, the headphones feature a refined design compared to the company's previous models, incorporating aluminum, titanium, and glass elements.

Triple-Driver Audio Technology

The Headphone 1 Pro utilizes three distinct drivers per earcup to separate audio frequencies, aiming to reduce distortion common in single-driver systems. A 40-mm dynamic driver handles the low end, a precision dynamic driver manages midrange sounds like vocals and instruments, and an xMEMS-based driver addresses high-frequency transients. This configuration is intended to provide a more detailed and richer sound profile.

Design and Durability

The headphones feature 9H Panda glass panels on the sides, allowing users to view the internal components. According to Nothing, the glass is shatter- and scratch-resistant, having passed durability tests involving drops from over 1 meter. The construction also includes a plastic film beneath the glass to maintain internal chamber integrity if the surface is cracked. The unit is slightly lighter than the previous Headphone 1 model and includes thicker headband padding.

Flat EQ and Professional Features

Developed in partnership with London’s Metropolis Studios, the headphones include a physical 'Flat EQ' switch on the left earcup. This feature allows users to bypass internal processing and spatial audio effects, providing a neutral sound signature intended for studio professionals. While the default 'Balanced' setting emphasizes mids and highs, the flat mode removes coloration for mixing purposes.
